About Public Health Nursing Program
Public Health Nursing is a specialized programme whose primary goal is to train a Public Health Nurse who will be able to prevent disease and illness, promote and protect the health of populations in order to improve health outcome of individuals, families and communities. The Diploma in Public Health Nursing programme is designed for pre-service candidates who have completed grade twelve and have a passion for the community. Entry qualifications are: 5 0 levels, English, Science and Mathematics are compulsory with any other subjects.
This three-year programme covers a wide range of topics, including Medicine and Medical Nursing, Surgery and Surgical Nursing, Public Health Nursing, Fundamentals of Research and Epidemiology, Community Engagement, Occupational Health, Integrated Reproductive Health, Paediatrics, Mental Health and other basic Nursing courses. These courses strengthen the students’ knowledge in their specialty as Public Health Nurses. The programme also includes a significant amount of clinical training, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings. The students undergo various workshops and clinical experience during their training such as Border and Airport Health, Rural and Urban Health Settings, Fire and First Aid trainings to enhance their skills as Public Health Nurses.
