About Clinical Instructor Nursing

The Clinical Instructor programme is one of the ten programmes being offered at the Lusaka College of Nursing and Midwifery. The programme is being implemented as one of the two programmes under the Nurse Education Partnership Initiative. It was commenced in 2013 and was offered on regular basis. The programme was transitioned to distance learning in 2017. Clinical teaching is an integral component of nursing and midwifery training. It is a way of imparting skills to trainee nurses and midwives during the practicum . The objectives of the programme are to enable Clinical Instructor students apply various innovative methods in training students nurses and midwives in order to be self-directed in identifying and addressing different problems in the clinical areas as well as to produce nursing and midwifery professionals who can competently face the challenges of teaching and mentoring student learners in different clinical practicum sites. Clinical instruction is an organised instructional programme in which Nurse Clinical Instructors facilitate learning of the students in different clinical settings in order to translate theory into practice. The clinical instructor is a Registered Nurse/Midwife who is supposed to have post basic qualification in teaching methodology. Training of Clinical Instructors prepare professionals who can competently face the challenges of teaching, guiding, assessing, supervising and mentoring learners in practicum sites.lt enhances the mastering of skills by learners as Clinical Instructors will be knowledgeable, competent and confident in implementing the educational programme.
