Advanced diploma in Emergency and Trauma Nursing commenced in January 2019 when a gap was noted in professionals trained to care for emergency and trauma cases in the Emergency Department. To date, 78 Registered Emergency and Trauma Nurses have graduated. The Bachelor of Science in Emergency and trauma nursing commenced in January 2023 in affiliation with Levy Mwanawasa Medical University (LMMU) to enhance service provision. Emergency and Trauma nurses are usually among the first health care professionals to provide medical assistance. They are required to care for patients in their critical phase of illness or injury focusing on the level of severity and time-critical interventions. We aim to equip the learner with knowledge and skills in assessing, resuscitating and stabilizing a patient who need immediate care before transfer to definitive care while applying critical thinking and evidence-based decision making.
