About Neonatal Nursing
The Neonatal programme commenced in July 2021 at Lusaka College of Nursing and Midwifery and is currently the only school training Neonatal Nurses in Zambia. The programme aims at contributing in the reduction of neonatal Mortality and Morbidity. The Duration of training is one year. The Pre-requist for training is Registered Nursing with 5 0’ Levels School Certificate with Valid practicing Licence. Students undertaking practicum allocation for Advanced Neonatal Care at UTH – Women and Newborn Hospital gain essential competencies and skills required for neonatal nursing. This hands-on experience equips them with the expertise to care for both sick and well neonates. Additionally, students are exposed to rural community nursing, enhancing their ability to manage neonates in resource-limited settings. The teaching staff consists of highly skilled and knowledgeable neonatal nursing experts dedicated to training competent neonatal nurses who can provide quality care locally and internationally. Throughout the practicum, students are closely supervised by trained clinicians at designated sites, ensuring they receive comprehensive guidance and mentorship.
